Who is eligible to receive free transportation services from Aging Forward Durham?

You are eligible if you:

  • Are 65 years of age or older

  • Live independently in a home, apartment, condo, or townhome

  • Reside in the North Durham area (north of I-85)

  • No longer drive or are unable to drive to your appointments

  • Are able to walk without a wheelchair

What kinds of appointments does Aging Forward Durham provide rides for?

We provide transportation to healthcare-related appointments including:

  • Medical and specialty doctor visits

  • Dental appointments

  • Eye care, audiology, and optometry visits

  • Physical therapy

  • Other essential healthcare services

How do I book transportation to my appointment?

You can request a ride in one of two ways:

More FAQs

Do you provide rides to non-medical locations such as grocery stores or hair salons?

No. At this time, transportation services are limited to medical and healthcare-related appointments only.

How much does the transportation service cost?

Our transportation service is completely free for eligible seniors. Aging Forward Durham is a nonprofit organization, and we are always grateful for donations that help support our mission.

Can someone ride with me to my appointment?

Yes. You may bring up to two family members or caregivers to ride with you.

Can you transport clients who use wheelchairs?

At this time, we are unable to transport individuals who require a wheelchair, as most volunteer vehicles are not wheelchair-accessible.

Can I provide feedback after my trip?

Yes! We strongly encourage clients to share their feedback and experiences. You may provide feedback online or by calling 919-489-2217.

When are Aging Forward Durham transportation services available?

Transportation services are available Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, depending on volunteer availability.

Can I book multiple appointments in advance?

Yes. You may schedule multiple future appointments in advance.

Where will the driver pick me up?

We provide door-through-door service. Our volunteer drivers will pick you up directly from your place of residence and safely return you home after your appointment.

Are volunteer drivers bilingual?

Our primary service language is English. If a client is not comfortable speaking English, we recommend bringing a family member or friend to serve as an interpreter during transportation to the appointment.
