Who We Are
A Nationwide Movement Rooted in Local Action
Enhancing Health, Purpose & Community
Aging Forward Durham shows how communities can proactively adapt to an aging population that’s growing quickly. As Durham’s over-60 population surges, this initiative ensures safety, inclusion, and dignity are woven into community life.
Combating Isolation & Fostering Independence
Social isolation affects about one in four older adults—a risk that's mitigated when volunteers step in not just for rides, but also for companionship. These small acts help build meaningful relationships and keep seniors connected and engaged. Even though the purpose of this service is for essential medical transportation, this is an incredibly positive side effect.
A Nationwide Movement Rooted in Local Action
Aging Forward Durham isn’t just a local initiative—it’s part of a national alliance celebrating 50 years of empowering older adults. Across 55 affiliates, over 165,000 older adults are reached annually with programs that foster well-being and connection

Why You Should Care
Connect & Belong – It’s more than rides—it’s building friendships, reducing loneliness, and ensuring that transportation isn’t a barrier between seniors and a healthy, active life.
Support & Empower – Volunteers help local seniors stay independent—attending doctors appointments, dental, PT requirements, and more.
Start a Ripple – You don’t need to be a driver; you could donate, or simply share with your local community to help expand the reach in Durham.
